Secure email

Please note that secure email is not actively supported in MitID Erhverv. As a result, there are no guides available for setting up or using secure email, and we are unable to provide support for its configuration.

Which certificates can we use for secure email?

You can encrypt and sign emails using either a user certificate or an organisation certificate issued by a user administrator in MitID Erhverv:

• User certificates: These are used when an employee needs to send secure emails. Issue he user certificate to the employee's user profile in MitID Erhverv.
• Organisation certificates: These are used in your organisation has a shared mailbox solution. The organisation administrator must enable this option to use organisation certificates. Navigate to the “Settings” menu in MitID Erhverv and select the option to allow the organisation to use organisation certificates. Once enabled, organisation certificates can be issued and used for secure email.

We recommend considering the following 2 details:

• Who in your organisation will need to use secure email? Employees who require secure email must have a user certificate.
• Which shared mailbox solutions need secure email?

Test your secure email solution

We recommend testing your secure email setup in your mail client using the certificate types issued through MitID Erhverv. This can be done in the integration testing environment.

In the integration testing environment, you can:

• issue test certificates
• install test certificates in your email client on your computer
• test the sending and receiving of encrypted emails.
